Living Stones

The world often perceives Christianity and the Bible as out of touch with reality. However, archaeological evidence continues to confirm the historical accuracy of biblical events.

An Unstoppable Kingdom

Daniel 2:44–45 (ESV): "And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall the kingdom be left to another people. It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever."

The stone "cut by no human hand" prophesied by Daniel represents God’s eternal kingdom, which will cover the earth and triumph over all other empires. This prophecy was fulfilled, and today, faith in Jesus continues to grow globally.

God’s Dwelling Place

God is not impressed by temples made by human hands, as He owns the universe. Yet, He chose to dwell among His people.

1 Kings 8:27 (ESV): "But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain You; how much less this house that I have built!"

Jesus, the cornerstone, declared that His church would be built on solid ground:

Matthew 16:18 (ESV): "And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

We Are Living Stones

1 Peter 2:4–6 (ESV): "As you come to Him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house."

Jesus Christ, the living stone rejected by men, has made us living stones. We are called to:

• Be built up as a spiritual house.
• Serve as a holy priesthood.
• Offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God.

We gather as a spiritual house for worship and prayer, with direct access to the Father through Christ’s atonement.

A Chosen People

1 Peter 2:9–10 (ESV): "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession."

As God’s chosen people, we are called to proclaim His excellencies and live out our faith. We are no longer strangers but members of God’s household:

Ephesians 2:19–22 (ESV): "You are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the cornerstone."

Be Living Stones, Not Tombstones

Jesus warned against hypocrisy:

Matthew 23:27 (ESV): "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs."

We are called to be living stones, actively serving God and reflecting His glory, not lifeless tombstones.

Our Role in God’s House

As living stones, we must present ourselves as living sacrifices and fulfill our responsibilities to God and one another:

• Be kind to one another.
• Pray for each other.
• Offer hospitality.
• Forgive one another.
• Love one another.
• Live peaceably with all.

Romans 12:1–2 (ESV): "Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God."

Conclusion

We are called to be living stones, diligently building the house of God. Let us offer ourselves as living sacrifices and encourage one another as we await the Lord’s return.

Hebrews 10:23–25 (ESV): "Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful."
