God Is Doing a New Thing

God is not stagnant. He is always moving, creating, restoring, and transforming. But to walk in step with what God is doing, believers must learn to release the past and align with His Spirit for what’s ahead.
1. God's Identity Shapes Ours
Isaiah 43:1–5
- Created and formed by God
- Redeemed and called by name
- Precious, honored, and loved
- Never alone—He is with us
When identity is rooted in God’s truth, not human opinion or failure, there is strength to step into the new.
2. From Judgment to Grace
Though Israel faced seasons of judgment, God shifted the tone in Isaiah 40–66 to one of restoration and grace. This mirrors God's pattern with all who turn to Him: from condemnation to redemption.
- God doesn’t just leave people in brokenness—He lifts them out.
- Grace is the foundation for the new thing He wants to do.
3. The Creation Principle
In Genesis, God repeatedly said, “It is good”—but when He created mankind, He said, “It is very good.”
Worth isn’t defined by performance or perception, but by divine declaration.
Knowing that identity is God-given fuels courage to leave the past and embrace what’s ahead.
4. Two Challenges to Embrace the New Thing
A. Forget the Past
Isaiah 43:18 – “Do not remember the former things…”
Past trauma, disappointment, betrayal, and even past glory can become chains if not released.
- “Men are not prisoners of fate, but prisoners of their own minds.” – Franklin Roosevelt
- Philippians 3:13–14 urges us to press forward, not dwell on the past.
Letting go is painful, but holding on is far more destructive.
B. Embrace the One New Thing
Isaiah 43:19 – “Behold, I will do a new thing…”
- Road in the wilderness – God gives direction where none exists.
- Rivers in the desert – God brings provision and favor in impossible places.
To receive the “one new thing,” the “many old things” must be laid down.
5. Final Encouragement
- Forgetting the past doesn’t mean erasing memory, but removing its authority.
- The pulpit exists to pull-you-out-of-the-pit—faith is fed through the Word.
- God’s “new thing” may look like healing, reconciliation, breakthrough, or redirection.
- What’s impossible for man is possible with God. (Matthew 19:26)
Reflection Questions for Life Group
- What “former thing” still holds space in your heart or mind?
- How have past experiences shaped your view of what God can do?
- What “new thing” do you sense God wanting to birth in your life or in your community?
Final Prayer Declaration
“Lord, I let go of the past.
I believe you are doing a new thing in me.
Give me direction. Show me favor.
I receive your one thing by faith. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
