Doing the Father's Will

God desires us to be actively involved in His Kingdom work. Being in the Father’s house means we abide by His rules and obey His will. From Genesis to Revelation, the central message is about doing the will of God.

John 6:38 (ESV): "For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will but the will of Him who sent Me."

Ecclesiastes 12:13 (CEV): "Everything you were taught can be put into a few words: Respect and obey God! This is what life is all about."

1 John 2:17 (ESV): "And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever."

From the Lord’s Prayer, we understand that God’s will must be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Matthew 6:9–10 (ESV): "Pray then like this: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.'"

The Will of the Father

Salvation for All

John 6:40 (TLB): "For it is My Father’s will that everyone who sees His Son and believes on Him should have eternal life—that I should raise him at the Last Day."

In the story of Zacchaeus, he did not expect to be noticed, but Jesus sought him out personally.

Luke 19:9–10 (ESV): "And Jesus said to him, 'Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.'"

Jesus also told the parable of the lost sheep, showing His heart for the one who is lost.

Luke 15:3–7

Seeking God’s Kingdom

Once we are in His Kingdom, God calls us to seek Him above all else.

Matthew 6:31–33 (ESV): "Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."

Seeking (zéteó in Greek) means to search, desire, and strive after something with our entire being.

The Kingdom of God (basileía) refers to the rule of Christ in our hearts. It is both a present reality and a future fulfillment when Christ returns.

Faith and Obedience

In 1 Kings 17, Elijah obeyed God’s command to seek provision from a poor widow during a famine.

1 Kings 17:13–14 (ESV): "And Elijah said to her, 'Do not fear; go and do as you have said. But first make me a little cake of it and bring it to me, and afterward make something for yourself and your son. For thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, "The jar of flour shall not be spent, and the jug of oil shall not be empty, until the day that the Lord sends rain upon the earth."'"

God always provides for those who trust and obey Him.

Honoring God Above Material Needs

Haggai 1:4–6 (ESV): "Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins? Now, therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways. You have sown much, and harvested little. You eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm. And he who earns wages does so to put them into a bag with holes."

The Israelites failed to observe the Sabbath rest for the land as commanded.

Leviticus 25:3–4 (ESV): "For six years you shall sow your field, and for six years you shall prune your vineyard and gather in its fruits, but in the seventh year there shall be a Sabbath of solemn rest for the land, a Sabbath to the Lord."

God promised provision if they trusted Him.

Leviticus 25:20–22 (ESV): "And if you say, ‘What shall we eat in the seventh year, if we may not sow or gather in our crop?’ I will command My blessing on you in the sixth year, so that it will produce a crop sufficient for three years."

Conclusion

We must examine our hearts and commit to fully following God’s will. Blessings follow those who seek Him and walk in obedience.

Leviticus 26:3–12 (ESV): "If you walk in My statutes and observe My commandments and do them, then I will give you your rains in their season... I will make My dwelling among you, and My soul shall not abhor you. And I will walk among you and will be your God, and you shall be My people."
